If you are visiting this site from AOL, most graphics from the web are compressed on your system and do not look as the designer intended. You can usually avoid this by following this procedure: Go to "My AOL", then to preferences, click on the "WWW" button, then from the box that comes up, choose the "Web Graphics" tab. Click on to UNCHECK the box for "use compressed graphics". You must then clear your browser's cache! or your browser will show you the website's pages from memory, not a fresh copy of the page.
RECOMMENDED: V4.0 browsers. 1024x768+

The discovery centre, Sharjah is a themed childrens museum divided into six main areas: Waterworld, Airport, Senses, Sportsworld, Drivetown and Buildtown. DJW worked with exhibition designers Haley Sharpe to create an environment that is both educational and fun for children of all ages.
The Communication Dome involves eight touchscreen computers linked together to form a communication network. The LCD touchscreen panels were dressed to look like one of four different methods of communication, a phone, fax, computer and mobile phone.
On each screen a keypad is used to call up the other terminals, to establish a communications link between the two stations. Once the visitor selects their chosen method of communication their terminal initialises so they can begin dialling.
The user is shown how the connection to the other user is made, by the use of simple animation. The route is described together with the method of connection. The software was designed and programmed using Macromedia Director and incorporated both the English and Arabic languages.
Together with the Communication Dome, DJW were involved in producing a computer interactive for the Discovery Centre's very own Children's supermarket!
The interactive took the form of a shop till together with a barcode reader interface, and worked just as a real shop till would. Although we must state at no stage was any money handed over!
