Mad Systems & The Big Idea

If you are visiting this site from AOL, most graphics from the web are compressed on your system and do not look as the designer intended. You can usually avoid this by following this procedure: Go to "My AOL", then to preferences, click on the "WWW" button, then from the box that comes up, choose the "Web Graphics" tab. Click on to UNCHECK the box for "use compressed graphics". You must then clear your browser's cache! or your browser will show you the website's pages from memory, not a fresh copy of the page.
RECOMMENDED: V4.0 browsers. 1024x768+

This exhibition is housed on Alfred Nobel’s “ wonderful sand desert” on the site of his British Dynamite Company.
Included as part of the exhibition dedicated to 1000 years of invention and a century of Nobel Laureates, is the History of Explosions.
Visitors are led to believe they are seated to view an ordinary video presentation, when they experience the surrounding floor lifting to form a wall around them. Then as the show continues they are shaken, rocked, tilted and jolted, as the story of explosives is told, and vision is synchronised with audio and special effects.
Maris Ensing, our Technical Director, programmed the movements of the motion-base using a computer.
