You can usually avoid this by following this procedure: Go to "My AOL", then to preferences, click on the "WWW" button, then from the box that comes up, choose the "Web Graphics" tab. Click on to UNCHECK the box for "use compressed graphics". You must then clear your browser's cache! or your browser will show you the website's pages from memory, not a fresh copy of the page.

House of Manannan, Isle of Man

Manannan was an Irish Sea God from whom the name of the Isle of Man was allegedly derived. The House of Manannan, the islands' new "Story of Mann" heritage presentation has been created on the site of the 'Odins Raven' boathouse on the harbour front at Peel.
The exhibition is divided into three themes: Manx Celts and Vikings; Manx Maritime Traditions and Peel Town and Castle. The emphasis throughout the series of diplays is to stimulate visits to real historic sites, still visible around the towns and countryside of the Isle of Man.

Maritime Encounters gives a first-hand account of events in Manx Maritime history. Visitors are introduced to famous characters from the Islands' past, represented by a mannequin. Each mannequin has a set of objects relating to their experiences. By touching one of these the visitor can see a show telling this character's story.
Manx Celtic life is enchantingly portrayed in a full-size recreated interior of a Round-House. A Manx Celtic Chieftain's family is depicted, disturbed at night by a storm and the atmosphere is enhanced using animatronic figures, lighting, sound and video.
The Stories of the Stones is recreated as a carpet mist swirls around Celtic and Viking crosses. Each ancient carving is lit while a dramatic presentation is given in the form of a two-screened video projection with surround sound.
